THERE are plenty of ways to boost your iPhone battery life – but some are better than others.

If you’re panicking about your battery draining too fast, there’s one setting that should be an immediate go-to.

A Reddit thread on the iOS subreddit for iPhone fans asked phone owners are their best battery life tips were.

And one user revealed that – above all else – iPhone brightness was the first setting to play with.

“Everyone seems to be forgetting the biggest thing you can do to save battery: turn your screen brightness down,” the user wrote.

“Can’t tell you how many people seem to think they need the brightness set to max.”

Apple also seems to agree.

On the company’s website for “maximising performance” from the iPhone battery, it has three tips for boosting your battery life.

The first is updating to the latest software, which can squash any battery-draining bugs.

But the second is dimming your brightness, or turning on Auto-Brightness, “to extend battery life”.

You can dim your iPhone’s screen by going into the Control Center.

On an iPhone with Face ID, you access this by swiping down from the top-right corner of the screen.

And on an iPhone with a Home Button, you just need to swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

Then simply drag the brightness slider down to a bearable – but lower – brightness.

To turn on Auto-Brightness, just go into Settings > Accessibility, then tap on Display & Text Size and activate Auto-Brightness.

Apple‘s third tip is to turn on Low Power Mode, which is more of a measure of last resort.

It was added way back in iOS 9 – so you almost certainly have it – and gives you a significant battery life boost.

You can turn it on by going into Settings > Battery, or by saying “Hey Siri, turn Low Power Mode on.”

Here’s Apple’s list of what Low Power Mode reduces or affects:

  • 5G (except for video streaming) on iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models
  • Auto-Lock (defaults to 30 seconds)
  • Display brightness
  • Display refresh rate (limited up to 60 Hz) on iPhone and iPad models with ProMotion display
  • Some visual effects
  • iCloud Photos (temporarily paused)
  • Automatic downloads
  • Email fetch
  • Background app refresh

You’ll know that Low Power Mode is activate because your battery status icon will turn yellow.

It should automatically switch off once you’ve charged back to 80% or higher.
