A RETRO game has been hidden inside the Spotify app – but only some users can access it.
It’ll be very familiar if you’re a fan of retro video games.
Iconic video game Snake’s first appearance was in the 1976 arcade title Blockade.
A Nokia version of the game exploded exploded in popularity in the late ’90s and early noughties after it was included on the bulk of the company’s mobile phones.
And if you know where to look, you can find a special Spotify version of snake hidden inside the music app.
One user in a Reddit thread about the discovery said: “Just tried it and it’s so unnecessary but I love it lmao.”
Another said: “Damn! I just discovered it and it’s so fun!!”
And a different user replied: “Wow! Never knew I needed this. Thanks!”
How to find Snake in Spotify
Just go into your Library and choose any Playlist with plenty of songs.
Then tap the three horizontal dots to enter the settings for that playlist.
Scroll down to the bottom and you should see a button that says Eat This Playlist.
Tap that and the Snake game will load up, tasking you with eating songs from the playlists.
Each song will play until you eat it – at which point it’s added to your snake and a new song-block spawns.
The background color of the screen should match the song’s art.
Sadly, some users on Reddit say that they’re unable to see the game.
It’s currently unclear how Spotify has decided who can and can’t access the hidden feature.
The game appears to be limited to iPhone owners, but not all iOS users can play it.
An official Spotify moderator revealed that the feature is part of a “test” – so some users may simply not see it.
They explained: “The feature is still being tested out and is currently available only on iOS and in certain markets.
“If we have any new updates to share about this, rest assured we’ll let everyone know via our For the Record blog.
“In the meantime, make sure you always keep the app up to date.”
Another hidden game…
Spotify isn’t the only app that has a hidden game.
If you’ve got the Google app on your iPhone, you can enjoy a game of pinball.
Just load up the app then tap on the Tabs page.
Now swipe up quickly and repeatedly in the middle of the screen to drag up a hidden pinball game.
You can then tap on the left and right of the display to control the paddles.
The objective is to destroy as many blocks as possible using the ball without letting it fall through the middle of the two paddles.
You’ll lose a life each time the ball drops through the gap, and the game ends when you’re all out of lives.
