A COLD case investigator has revealed the shocking moment he discovered that his books were on the shelves of murderers.

Criminologist David Wilson said he felt like a “serial killers’ teacher” after spotting his work in the background of cop evidence pictures.

The professor has worked with police forces up and down the country delving into horrific murders.

He then took to writing multiple books on the crimes that shook the nation – which he later spotted in the homes of Jack the Ripper copycats.

David told The Sun: “They had my books on their bookshelf. You know, you’re kind of like: ‘Wait a minute, this is just getting a bit too strange’.”

The books were at the home of muyrderer Nathan Maynard-Ellis – who was known for the disturbing Tipton killing.

Julia Rawson was just 42 years old when a man, obsessed with horror films, and his sick and twisted boyfriend, subjected her to torture.

David said: “You’ve got that poor woman who was murdered in Tipton, in the West Midlands by the two guys who were studying criminology.

“And I didn’t know. I know nothing about this. I didn’t work on the case or anything.

“I knew nothing about the woman that was murdered.

“West Midlands Police put out quite a lot of press statements about her murder after the two guys got convicted.

“And the printed photographs of the room in which she was murdered, which included their bookshelves.

“It was then I noticed: ‘Oh my god. They’re reading my books’.”

Maynard-Ellis met Julia at a Dudley, West Mids pub in May 2019 before taking her to his haunting flat.

He and partner David Leesley then subjected her to a brutal killing before dismembering her body and hiding parts beneath plants and trees.

At the time of the trial, jurors heard Maynard-Ellis had a fascination with decapitation and horror films.

Wilson said: “When they killed her, they killed her and dismembered her in December.

“They removed her left kidney and as you will know, that is a direct reference back to Jack the Ripper.”

The expert went onto say he fears that he even has potential criminals in his classrooms.

Wilson said: “Every year I teach – I’ve been teaching for the longest time – 400 kids, 18-year-olds who are studying criminology, and every year I say a couple of them will give me the creeps because I’m like, I don’t know why they’re studying this.

“I genuinely don’t know why they’re doing this. Is there just something in some people that gives them this fascination and obsession with death?”

He explained some of the students seem to more about criminals than him as a professor.

Wilson said: “Why do they give them the creeps? They give me the creeps because they know more about serial murderers than I think I do.”

He continued: “You know that they know just you know where the serial killer was.

“On any given day of the year. Her favorite breakfast cereal was they just know too much and you’re like, well, that’s not what criminology is.

“Why would you need to know that information, and they’re so proud of it are so immersed in it, but you think why are you consuming it?”
