COPS have launched an urgent murder probe after a car ploughed into a huge crowd leaving a 46-year-old man dead and others injured.

The motor crashed into the group of people, including officers, during a night of violence in Sheffield.

The chaos saw “numerous others” injured with one person left in “serious condition” in hospital.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, cops confirmed.

Meanwhile, another man, 55, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, South Yorkshire Police said.

The force said that at around 2pm today, emergency services were called to College Close in the Burngreave area of the city “following reports of violence and disorder”.

As the call was under way, a car “collided with a group of people”.

Footage shared on social media shows the road cordoned off with multiple ambulances and paramedics on the scene.

South Yorkshire Police said: “A 46-year-old man died at the scene and numerous others are injured, with one person in a serious condition in hospital.

“The man’s next of kin has been informed and is currently being supported by officers.”
