He manages to stay on his feet as the merciless mutt tries to tug him to the floor during the mauling on Cedar Street.

A man then hurls himself onto the dog and tries to prise open the locked jaw of the sand-coloured hound.

Passers-by appear to rush to get help as the adult with the child tries to tear him from the dog, LancashireLive reported.

After 60 hellish seconds it finally relinquishes, is wrestled to the floor but escapes and bounds towards another man.

He flees for his life around a car before the dog is finally tackled and carried off in a bear hug by a man.

The youngster was rushed to hospital following the 12.30pm horror.

Shockingly, police say threats have been made towards his family.

Lancashire Police arrested a 27-year-old man from Blackburn on suspicion of assault, ABH and affray.

He has been bailed while the dog, believed to be an XL Bully, seized.

The Government said a ban on XL Bullies will come into force on December 31.

It comes as The Sun found hundreds of owners giving away their soon-to-be outlawed Bullies for free or selling them for as little as £10 before the ban.

In a statement, Lancashire Police said: “The dog – which at this time we believe is an XL Bulldog type – has been seized.

“A short time later it was reported that threats had been made towards the family of the victim.

“A 27-year-old man from Blackburn was arrested on suspicion of assault – ABH and affray and has since been bailed pending further enquiries.”
