THOUSANDS of artifacts and skeletons discovered in Brazil have now been dated.
The National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute recently announced the discovery.

Despite the first remains being found at a building site in 2019, we’re only just learning more about them.
Since 2019, around 100,000 artifacts have been found.
Archaeologists have also discovered 43 skeletons in the area.
The artifacts and remains were found in the coastal city of Sao Luis.
They date back to around 9,000 years ago and it’s this date that’s causing a stir.
It could rewrite the history of what we know about human settlement in Brazil.
The National Historical and Artistic Heritage explained more on its website.
It said: “This site, dating back more than 6 thousand years, is a testimony to the long history of human occupation on the island of São Luís, demonstrating a past that precedes conventional historical records in Brazil.
“The prehistoric and scientific relevance of this archaeological find derives from the grandeur and exceptionality of the national heritage that it represents.”
Excavations are still taking place at the site, which contains so much treasure.
Precious artifacts include ceramics and pottery.
Researchers are planning to use a more precise type of dating to confirm their theories.
It’s called isotopic analysis and involves converting pieces of artifacts into gas to precisely date what they’re made of.
According to CBS News, lead archaeologist Wellington Lage said: “We’ve been working four years now, and we’ve barely scratched the surface.”
