GOOGLE users are complaining about the Home Mini device as a new software update appears to be “bricking” the gadget.

The Home Mini, which introduced Google Assistant to the masses, seems to have issues due to outdated hardware.

The virtual assistant device was launched in 2017 and remained at the top position in the market through 2021 – two years after its replacement Nest Mini was launched at the same price point.

Google then stopped the sale of Home Mini, but continued to offer software updates for existing customers who did not switch to the upgrade version.

However, users are now complaining the device has become outdated and is no longer functional – even with the latest software updates.

For some users, the device does not turn on even after repeated rounds of charging, while others report they are unable to reset the gadget.

For affected devices, all four lights on the Google Home turn on, but the device does not function.

One affected Google Home Mini user captured images of the error, showing the device attempting to boot after being plugged in, showing four lights a few seconds later, and showing an attempted reset that turns the first light green, but ultimately fails to actually reset the device.

Users on the Google Nest community page have been blasting the comments sections with their problems.

One user wrote: “My device has 4 dots currently I can’t seem to reset it or do anything with it.”

Another said: “I am on this forum for the same issues. I cannot factory reset by using the button on the bottom, or by using the disconnect power for 10 sec and reconnecting 11 times.

“Neither method has worked, so I’m looking for other options.”

A third user wrote: “Seems a lot of devices got affected. Now waiting for Google´s statement/fix/solution to the situation.”

Google has so far only partially acknowledged the issue, with a comment from a Community Manager asking for further feedback and reports to be sent to Google’s team.

A thread has been created in the Google forum for users to share their problems, while the company has issued no solution yet.
